The Executive Secretary Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Rev.Dr. Yakubu Pam has stressed the need for Nigerians to go back to their reading culture which they are known for . He made this assertion while playing host to the Nigerian Pilot Newspaper Management in his office at the NCPC corporate headquarters in Abuja, on 7th April, 2022.
Rev. Dr.Pam disclosed that the society gets informed about happenings around the world through the media. He further explained that newspaper readers in the past were classified as serious citizens of the country. But to his dismay, Nigerians no longer read newspapers which was the means of disseminating information in those days, according to him, ‘’we are in a generation of mobile phone users who gets their information easily now on social media’’.
The NCPC scribe urged Nigerians to reawaken the reading of newspapers to help their reading culture.
The Executive secretary intimated that the Commission cannot do without the media because the pilgrims need information from the Commission on a daily basis, and as such, it is the work of the print, electronic and the social media to relate such information to the public. In his words, ‘’we need to work together with them for the sake of pilgrimage’’.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation Mr. Chuks Ohuegbe who is the Director of Publication of the Nigerian Pilot Newspaper said,” they came to forge a relationship with the Commission”
He intimated that the Nigerian Pilot Newspaper has been on the news stand for over 15 years; hence they have come to exchange ideas with the leadership of the Commission. According to him, ‘’the Newspaper is open to all segment of the society’’.
Mr. Ohuegbe informed that the Newspaper runs a religious page on Friday which is open to churches and organizations such as NCPC to generate the content for publication; he therefore said that the Nigerian Pilot would be willing to make the newspaper available to the Commission as part of their contribution to the great work of the Executive Secretary by showcasing the activities of the Commission to the public.
