FG To Secure N5BN Loan Facility For Livestock Farmers

Dr Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, has announced that the Federal Government provided N5Billion to Bank of Agriculture to encourage livestock farming in the country.

The announcement which was made during a media briefing highlighted that
with notable initiatives such as the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) and Livestock Productivity Resilience and Support Plan (LPRESP), would reform the livestock sector.

Dr. Abubakar stated that the N5 billion in the Bank of Agriculture was part of recapitalization to be given to livestock herders.

“The bank is being recapitalized, so more money will be coming in.” He explained.

The Minister assured that the scheme is expected to bring more stability to develop the livestock sector, improve security and harmonious existence between farmers and herders.

The Loan Facility would also ensure more access at reasonable interest rates for farmers to expand their business and attract potential Investors into the Livestock Value Chain.

The Minister pointed out that crop sub sector has always gotten more attention because it comes with food security.

In his remarks, the Managing Director, Bank of Agriculture, BoA, Alwan Ali Hassan, explained that, “The Federal Government has recapitalized the Bank of Agriculture, we have received some funds and one of the mandates of the bank is financing the agric value chain completely’’.

Alhaji Hassan pointed out that the modality in giving out the loan is going to be exactly as enshrined in loan conditions.

We have set rules for giving out loans which is governed by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, regulations and also regulated by the bank and financial institutions body’’.

He added that “the rates start from nine per cent up to 15 per cent depending on which value chain you are taking.

That means it depends on the risk factor of the business you are going into’’.

On whether individuals farmers, who are not registered members of associations could apply for the loan, the Managing Director answered in the affirmative stating:
“In fact, we do not intend to give loan to the association, we are giving their members”.

“All that the association has to do is to introduce their members”.

Reacting to this development, the National President, Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, Baba Usman Ngelzarma lauded Federal Government for the loan facility as an important intervention for the livestock Value Chain.

Kogi State Governor, His Excellency Yahaya Bello, has officially announced the immediate reappointment of several key officials in the state. The following individuals have been approved to resume their previous positions:

Jibrin Momoh: Former State’s Accountant General
Pharm. Jamiu Abdulkarim Asuku: Former Chief of Staff to the Governor
Yakubu Okala: Former State Auditor-General
Idris Asiwaju Asiru: Former Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning
Barr Momodu Ozigi Deedat: Former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The reappointment of the Auditor-General and the commissioners is subject to the scrutiny and confirmation of the House of Assembly before they can resume their duties.

Note that these individuals had previously submitted their resignation letters in March. Their reappointment has been carefully considered and approved by the State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

We trust that the reappointment of these officials will further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the state government in delivering its mandate to the people of Kogi State.

The President-elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has bestowed his blessings upon Hon. Ododo Ahmed Usman, OAU, the APC Gubernatorial candidate for Kogi 2023, while assuring him of victory at the November polls.

During Ododo’s visit to his residence in Abuja on Saturday, Asiwaju urged party members in the state to work towards the party’s victory at the polls. He stated that Kogi has been an APC stronghold with consistent electoral victories since 2015 and expressed no doubt that Ododo would emerge victorious in November. The President-elect also commended the party leadership and supporters for their overwhelming victory in the last election.

Earlier, the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, who led Ododo on the visit, said that party members chose Ododo as the candidate based on his capacity, competence, and ability to lead effectively. He assured Asiwaju that the people of Kogi State would vote for consolidation, which Ododo’s candidacy represents, having witnessed the progress made in the state in the last seven years.

WADA CONGRATULATES ODODO, ASSURES HIM OF PRAYERS, SUPPORT

Former Kogi State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, welcomed the All Progressives Congress Party candidate for the 2023 Kogi gubernatorial election, Hon Ododo Ahmed Usman, to his residence in Abuja on Wednesday. Captain Wada, who served as governor from 2011 to 2015, offered prayers for Ododo’s success in the upcoming November polls, noting that his interest was for a peaceful and progressive Kogi State.

During the prayers, Captain Wada reminded Ododo that it is ultimately God who grants power to whomever He wishes. Captain Wada while congratulating Ododo for winning the primary election to emerge APC flag bearer also stressed the importance of peaceful elections, stating that such an environment is necessary for peace and development. He assured the APC candidate of prayers and support ahead of the November polls in the state.

NADDC AND UNITED NATIONS UNDP TO COLLABORATE ON EV CHARGING STATIONS

The United Nations Development Program, UNDP, headquartered in New York, is the United Nations’ largest development aid agency, with offices in 170 countries.

The DIrector General, NADDC, Mr. Jelani Aliyu MFR had a crucial meeting with delegates from the UNDP at the NADDC Headquarters Abuja on Wednesday 11th May, 2022.

Focus of discussions was the collaboration between the NADDC and the UNDP on setting up Electric Vehicle Charging stations for EVs that would support projects on sustainable economic growth and human development in Nigeria.

The Director General added “Vehicle electrification is inevitable, the NADDC is very rapidly shifting attention to it, and we are working towards achieving its comprehensive and sustainable adoption in Nigeria.”

According to him NADDC is also working assiduously towards developing a unique, yet highly applicable Electric Vehicle that would be in tune with the economic structure of Nigeria. He showcased the design of the vehicle to the UNDP team.

Aliyu also highlighted the Council’s establishment of 100% Solar Powered EV Charging Stations at Usmanu Danfodio Unniversity, Sokoto, University of Lagos and University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Responding, the Operations Analysts and leader of the UNDP team, Sally Musa, was very excited over the achievements and very unique and highly technical programmes and projects of the NADDC.

She assured that the UNDP would collaborate with the Council to establish EV charging stations, and also partner with the Council in the area of training programmes to further empower Nigerian youths, adding that more UN Agencies and other International Organizations would like to key into the very many projects of NADDC.

She was also shown the EV Fast Charger for the Jet Mover Electric Van at the Council. The van is a 100% Electric Vehicle by indigenous automotive company, Jet Systems Motors.

At the meeting, Mr Jelani had aslo highlighted other major achievements, programmes and projects of NADDC which included establishment of three Laboratory Test Centres at Kaduna, Lagos and Enugu, to ensure global standards of made-in-Nigeria vehicles, work on three Automotive Industrial Parks at Nnewi, Oshogbo and Kaduna, Construction of 18 Automotive Training Centres across the nation, establishment of three Pilot Automotive Service Hubs, construction of Automotive Design Studio and R&D facility in Zaria, Development of NADDC Auto Finance Scheme where producers/assemblers can tap into for expansion of their facilities while the public can access credit for patronage, thereby stimulating demand and encouraging more local production, establishment of Solar Powered EV charging Stations at Usman Danfodio Unniversity Sokoto, University of Lagos and University of Nigeria Nsukka.

Sally, who later drove the KONA EV, was amazed with the design, performance and features of the Electric Vehicle.

RAMADAN: Madinah governor commends Hajj, Umrah Security personnel

Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman of Saudi Arabia visited the personnel and leaders involved in the Hajj and Umrah security missions, as well as the security forces at the Prophet’s Mosque.

The visit was held in presence of Madinah Deputy Gov. Prince Saud bin Khaled Al-Faisal and the director of Madinah Police, Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Al-Mashhan.

The governor praised the organizational and humanitarian work of the security personnel, in cooperation with governmental and voluntary agencies, in creating an atmosphere suitable for worshipers to practice their rituals in safety and tranquility

SAUDI ARABIA: Nine Pakistani Umrah pilgrims died in road crash

Pakistanis killed in Saudi Arabia: The victims are purportedly the residents of Nankana Sahib’s neighbouring villages Islamnagar and Chak 18. The pilgrims had visit visas to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.

Nine Pakistani citizens, who were returning from Medina to Riyadh after performing Umrah, were killed in a road accident in Saudi Arabia’s Al-Qassim province, as per reports. Amoung those who died were women and children while five other Umrah pilgrims sustained injuries. The residents of Nankana Sahib in the neighbouring village Islamnagar were travelling in Saudi Arabia on a visit visa.

The incident occurred after the pilgrims had completed Umrah and were at the Al-Qasim area upon their return journey to Riyadh. Medina to Riyadh distance is 837.8 km and it takes approximately 7 hours and 48 minutes via bus.

The victims are purportedly the residents of Nankana Sahib’s neighbouring villages Islamnagar and Chak 18. This incident comes as earlier, at least 20 Umrah pilgrims were killed and 29 sustained injuries in a bus crash in the southwest of Saudi Arabia.

In the unfortunate incident, the bus first hit a bridge, rolled over, and was set on fire killing 20 people onboard. As per reports, the accident took place due to a brake failure. It took place on the road joining Asir province and the city of Abha, according to Gulf News. In this case as well, the victims were pilgrims who were on their way to Mecca to perform Umrah.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello on Friday played host to Hajia Sameera Mohammed Abu, the wife of the late Kogi-born Army officer, Lieutenant Colonel Muhammad Abu Ali CON at his official residence, Lugard House, Lokoja.

While commending Hajia Sameera Abu Ali for her patience and belief in the will of the Almighty, Governor Bello said his administration will continue to keep in touch with those that were left behind by their loved ones who died in active duties. He said no matter the amount of succour and assistance the government and individuals provide for those who lost their loved ones, there are always burdens that can only be controlled by the Almighty citing the father’s love for his children, husband’s love and care for his wife as some of the heaven burdens on the bereaved. Bello assured that government will continue to pay attention to the needs of the families of the fallen heroes.

While responding, Hajia Mohammed Abu Ali thanked the governor for standing this far with her family describing the gesture as rare.

Lt Col Mohammed Abu Ali, CON was a Nigerian Army officer who commanded the Army’s 272 Tank Battalion until he and other 6 soldiers were killed in an ambush by Boko Haram in Malam Fatori, Borno State on the 4th of November, 2016.

On the 9th of September 2015, Chief of Army Staff Lt General Tukur Buratai went to the battlefield in Gamboru where Lt Col Ali was carrying out a military onslaught against Boko Haram to present him an award for exceptional bravery

Lt Col Abu Ali was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the Nigerian Army Armour Corps in September 2003 and died on the 4th of November 2016.
