In a bid to tackle national economic challenges, the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology announced the upcoming Science and Technology Innovation Expo 2024 during a world press briefing held at the Prof. R. A. Borroface Hall, National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

Under the theme “STI: Solution to National Economic Challenges,” the expo aims to raise awareness and showcase achievements in the science and technology sector. Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, highlighted the evolution of the expo, tracing its origins back to 1988 when it was established. Over the years, it has evolved to become a platform for promoting collaboration among stakeholders and enhancing the innovation ecosystem.

Scheduled to take place from March 11th to 15th at Eagle Square, Abuja, the expo will feature exhibitions of research, development, and innovation reports, alongside technical sessions on emerging STI issues. Furthermore, there will be assessments of reports, inventions, and services on display, with certificates to be awarded to technopreneurs, researchers, and inventors.

Minister Nnaji emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture of STI in Nigeria, particularly among primary and secondary school students, to foster interest in STEM fields and nurture a culture of innovation. He urged the public and stakeholders to engage with the expo to discover the locally-driven innovations that often go unnoticed. Additionally, he highlighted the profitable investment opportunities within the sector and called on technopreneurs to partner with the Ministry to expand the sector and generate wealth.

The Ministry’s initiative aligns with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, aiming to galvanize all human and material resources towards achieving economic growth and development.

The press briefing concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Director of Promotion, expressing gratitude to all partners and stakeholders for their attendance and support.

The Science and Technology Innovation Expo 2024 promises to be a significant event, showcasing Nigeria’s potential to harness science, technology, and innovation for economic prosperity and societal advancement.
