As the lead up to the general elections heat up, the Director of civil societies and NGOs of the All progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council – Abuja chapter, Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins Laniyi has called for maximum support of the Tinubu/Shettima – led campaign by these groups, saying that the importance of civil societies to the democratic process cannot be overemphasised.
The charge was made as APC inaugurated the FCT PCC on Thursday, 26th January in a ceremony which saw a number of heads of Directorates inaugurated in a bid to consolidate and harmonize all apparatus of the APC as Nigeria inches closer to the polls.
Speaking to press after the oath taking ceremony, which was conducted by the Honorable Minister of State in her capacity standing in for the Minister of the FCT at the international conference centre in Abuja, Laniyi who was also inaugurated, stated that civil societies have a role to play in reducing election-related conflict dynamics and promoting a peaceful electoral environment. She stressed the importance of harnessing maximum support from these groups as a way to consolidate the core of the electorate as the country decides at the general elections.
“It is of utmost importance that we garner support from all quarters in other to ensure a landslide victory at the polls; civil societies and NGOs stand as wealth of resource to ensure maximum support while also having the advantage of influencing peaceful electoral processes as a whole,”
“The APC is not resting on its oars to bring this to bear by engaging with civil societies and NGOs to take advantage of of the reach they have in terms of advocacy and mobilization,” she said.
The inauguration was well attended by members of the APC including; the Minister of the FCT Alhaji Muhammad Bello who was represented by Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu; state chairman of the party Alhaji Usman Abdulmalik; party excos, stalwarts, and candidates alike.
