The African University of Science and Technology (AUST) recently hosted its second matriculation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session, marking the induction of a new cohort of students into its prestigious academic community. The event, graced by distinguished personalities and esteemed guests, underscored the institution’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and holistic development among its students.
Led by Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, the acting President and Vice Chancellor of AUST, the ceremony featured insightful remarks aimed at inspiring the matriculating students to excel in their academic pursuits. Prof. Onwualu emphasized the importance of teamwork, adaptability, and time management, urging the students to embrace these qualities as they navigate their educational journey.
Central to AUST’s mission is the cultivation of theoretical and practical knowledge in technology, science, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Prof. Onwualu highlighted the university’s innovation hub and extracurricular activities focused on skill acquisition, encouraging students to actively engage in these initiatives to develop into well-rounded individuals.
Furthermore, the President reiterated the significance of academic diligence, urging students to take their studies seriously to graduate as competent professionals. This sentiment was echoed during interactions with the press, where Prof. Onwualu reiterated the university’s commitment to producing graduates equipped to meet the challenges of the modern world.
In line with its commitment to student welfare, Prof. Onwualu stated that AUST conducts instantaneous testing and spot checks to ensure a drug-free campus environment, underscoring its dedication to maintaining a conducive learning atmosphere. He also admonished against bullying and other vices.
The ceremony also featured a vote of thanks and closing remarks by the Chairman of the Senate Ceremonial Committee, who expressed gratitude to attendees, parents, and matriculants. He urged the students to strive for excellence, achieve their goals, and embody the values espoused by the Vice Chancellor.
The atmosphere was one of elation, with both parents and matriculants expressing joy and anticipation for the academic journey ahead.
