NIGERIA, ECOWAS SUPPORT WFP’s FOOD AND NUTRITION ASSISTANCE TO VULNERABLE FAMILIES WIT IM US$1M IN 2021
ABUJA – Di United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) don get di US$1 million moni in 2021 from di Gofment of Nigeria as part of ECOWAS humanitarian assistance to di Nigerian Gofment for d pupul wey d cata-cata bege for di wahala wey dey happun for North West and North East Nigeria.
Di moni from ECOWAS been dey granted to the gofment of Nigeria from di ECOWAS Regional Stabilization Fund. Di Gofment of Nigeria come join with WFP in Nigeria to use di moni take comot hungeri for Katsina, Zamfara and Borno states.
Di programme been dey target 840 households (some 4,196 persons) for Zamfara, Katsina and Borno states wey get food wahala, we go dey helep dem with food. Di beneficiaries go dey collect average cash transfer of NGN 27,000 in dier prepaid bank cards or WFP SCOPE cards every month to take buy food wey dem like from local market. Dem encourage beneficiaries to buy different-different local food from market. Dis cash transfer come get additional advantage of stimulating local markets as well as agricultural production.
To prevent serious malnutrition in children for di first 1,000 days of dem life, di programme come follow provide nutrition to dey helep children from 6-23 months old and to pregnant women as well as women wey dey breastfeed vulnerable and food wahala households. Some 14,070 children and 1,932 pregnant/breastfeeding women come get specialized nutritious food for di three (3) project states.
In addition to all dis, WFP dey use di ECOWAS donation to helep household wey dey for kata-kata wahala states of Borno, Adamawa, Yobe and Katsina tanda gidigba. Di project go also provide milling machines as well as training support to 603 returnees from Cameroon and displaced rural women to support dem to generate some income to take sustain dem livelihoods.
