In a calculated effort to ensure safety and standard, the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has concluded arrangements to commence the accreditation and certification of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered Vehicles Conversion Workshops in Nigeria.
This was disclosed by the Director General NADDC, Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin at a Stakeholders Engagement Meeting held on Wednesday 15th May, 2024 at Transcorp Hilton Abuja. The Director General, who was ably represented by the Director Research, Design and Development of the Council, Dr. Fidelis Achiv said that the meeting was to sensitise the converters on the guidelines for the CNG powered vehicle conversion to ensure best practices are followed in the conversation procedure.
Osanipin further stated that the workshop was necessitated by the sensitivity and inflammable nature of gas as a source of energy utilised at both domestic and mobility levels. “You are all aware that the NADDC as the regulatory agency of the automotive industry is providing and creating an enabling environment for the use of CNG as an alternative and cheaper transportation fuel, and last year His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu launched the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas initiative as a successor to the National Gas Expansion Programme”.
He concluded by soliciting the support of all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the renewed hope agenda of Mr President on clean and alternative energy consumption for Nigerians is successful, as NADDC will not compromise quality service delivery in any workshop.
“Therefore, Nigeria must leverage on those natural gas resources and transform it to energy that will drive the automotive wheels of Nigeria and over the years, the Council organised sensitisation and awareness campaign on the safety and benefits of using AutoGas (CNG) as an alternative fuel to petrol and diesel” he said.
In his remarks, the programme coordinator, regulatory compliance and facilitator, presidential compressed Natural Gas initiative (PCNGi) Engr. Zayyanu Tambari Yabo echoed the request for stakeholders cooperation to ensure the success of the PCNGi, adding that by 2027, about one million CNG Vehicles would be produced while over three billion naira investments would be realised in the sector.
Major Stakeholders who participated in the meeting were the Federal Ministries of Industry Trade and Investment, Finance & Transport. While agencies that participated includes Standards Organisation of Nigeria, FRSC, NMDPRA and NITT. From the Private Sector were representatives from Nord Motors, Context Global, Greenvill LNG, Autobahn Motors, Plantries Energy Group, Innoson Kiara Academy, Vgian etc.
At the end of the workshop, the participants, including those who participated via online applauded NADDC for the initiative to accredit and certify converters to ensure safety and standards in the sector.

The prophet called on Christians, Muslims and stakeholders to remember and help the less-privileged who are suffering awfully in different parts of the country. However, he encouraged and charged the needy to trust and remain steadfast in God who he said had not forgotten nor abandoned them.
The beneficiaries said that the gesture was a practice of pure religion which they said was very rare in our society today. They prayed to God to bless him beyond measure.
The high points of the event were the distribution of gifts items like food stuffs, clothes, shoes and cash donations to over five hundred widows, orphans and destitudes in Abuja and it’s environs.

General Arogbofa’s painful demise leaves a void in our great country and saying goodbye to this illustrious son of Okaland really hurts because memories can’t replace his physical presence. His exit has no doubt left a vacuum in us.
Jones Arogbofa as popularly called by friends and associates was a distinguished soldier, a scholar of international repute, and a talented son of Africa. His death was very shocking and indeed a sad commentary. His memory remains fresh and his life’s accomplishments like a lush Savannah are evergreen.
We, the living, are privileged to reminisce over his brilliant career, and in doing so, we cannot help but be moved by the depth of his contribution.
General Arogbofa believed that every person deserves the opportunity to shine. His mantra, “No one can cover the sunshine,” embodied this philosophy. He was a man of deep convictions, ethical and sincere. His dreams were simple yet significant.

The Nigerian Academy of Engineering (NAEng) convened a press conference today to address the recent policy directives by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at enhancing the investment climate and positioning Nigeria as a premier investment destination for the oil and gas sector in Africa.
Led by Prof. Azikiwe Peter Onwualu, President of NAEng, the conference highlighted the pivotal role of engineering in various sectors and underscored the academy’s commitment to advising the government on pertinent policy matters.
Prof. Onwualu emphasized the significance of the energy, oil, and gas sectors in driving economic growth, stressing the importance of engineering solutions in addressing challenges across industries.
President Tinubu’s directives, as outlined in a press release, include the introduction of fiscal incentives for non-associated gas, midstream, and deepwater developments, streamlining contracting processes, and ensuring local content compliance without hindering investments.
In response, NAEng commended the directives, noting their potential to attract foreign and local investments, accelerate project delivery, and reduce costs. The academy further suggested measures to improve the gas reserve base, encourage exploration, and optimize production levels.
During the Q&A session, key speakers provided valuable insights:
Former President of the Nigeria Society of Chemical Engineering, Engr. Onochie Anyaoku advocated for privatizing refineries, citing the NLNG model as a successful precedent for efficiency and safety. Engr. Anyaoku stated that privatisation of the refineries eschews traditional government approch and empasises high level of competence, as well as attention to detail and safety. in his view, government ownership of complex assets are low performing because competence is deemphasised.
In his remarks, Former GMD of NNPC, Engr. Andrew L Yakubu emphasized the importance of fiscal incentives in making gas projects attractive for investment and highlighted the role of LNG in reducing flaring and enhancing value.
The President, Nigeria Society of Chemical Engineers, Engr. Anthony Ogbuigwe underscored the need for increased investment in the gas sector to mitigate environmental concerns and create job opportunities. He also reiterated that LNG has reduced gas flaring by 75% and can be further reduced by encouraging investment in the gas sector, and stated that upstram and downstraem exploration provides job opportunities.
In his closing remarks, Prof. Onwualu reiterated NAEng’s commitment to supporting the government’s efforts, particularly in promoting sustainable energy solutions and technological innovation. He announced the launch of the Engineering Innovation Award, aimed at fostering innovation and supporting startups in the engineering sector.
The press conference concluded with a call for coordinated efforts between the government and industry stakeholders to realize the full potential of Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, paving the way for economic growth and sustainability.
The National Commissioner, Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, has ordered a full-scale investigation in respect of allegations of unauthorized access to the personal data of enrollees in the database of National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). This investigation is a further regulatory measure to be taken by NDPC in the wake of public concerns over reports of illegal access to personal data of enrollees by a shadowy entity called XpressVerify.com.
It will be recalled that prior to now, NDPC has been engaging with NIMC on fostering adequacy of data protection. To this end, NDPC held a training with relevant officers of NIMC early February, 2024. This is one in a continuum of measures being put in place by the Federal Government to ensure data privacy and protection. We note that NIMC has initiated internal investigation and it has immediately given full assurances of cooperation with NDPC to get to the root of the allegation and to review existing mediums through which any entity may lawfully verify the identity of enrollees on its platform. Furthermore, NDPC will work with relevant agencies to audit the trails of the alleged unauthorized data processing and monetization of same, and those who are found culpable for violating the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 will be brought to justice.
The National Commissioner further directed that preliminary findings of the investigation should be made public within seven days.

Spearheaded by the Nigerian Stakeholders for Data Protection Awareness (NSDPA), this initiative aims to educate Nigerian citizens, businesses, and organizations about the crucial importance of safeguarding personal data and privacy in the digital realm.
The primary objective of the campaign is to raise awareness on the significance of data protection and privacy, not only to foster a secure digital environment but also to stimulate job opportunities across Nigeria.
By empowering thousands of Nigerians to contribute their creativity to the campaign, the NSDPA seeks to deepen the value proposition of the National Awareness Campaign while simultaneously addressing critical issues in data protection.
Comprising seasoned professionals from various sectors, the NSDPA is united in its mission to promote strategic awareness regarding data protection and privacy throughout Nigeria.
